Changed Habits – Memory [EN]

Amnusique :
Hi Andy & Lukas. Thank you for accepting our interview request. Could you introduce yourselves to our readers? (who are you, where you’re from, for how long have you been making music, what genre of music do you produce, musical influences, etc…)
Lukas :
My name is Lukas, I’m 19 years old and I live in a small village in Austria. I’ve been making music for about two years. Our music combines elements from different genres, because we don’t want to restrict ourselves to one specific genre. Inspiration comes from nearly everywhere: for instance I like to take walks alone at night, and while I’m walking my mind just wanders and comes up with these ideas, I guess can’t think inside the box.
Andy :
Hi, my name is Andy, I’m 24 years old, and I live in Kiel in Germany. I learned to play the accordion at the age of 5 and taught myself how to play the guitar when I was 14. Folk music is without a doubt my favorite genre. I’m also a huge fan of Patrick Watson, ever since I discovered him on NPR I’ve been covering his songs on my acoustic guitar and the piano, so he has definitely had some influence on me.
Amnusique :
Do you have any activities/jobs besides music?
Lukas :
I’m currently going to school, I’ll finish this summer. In my spare time I like to design things, work on different projects and write down what I see and think. When it’s warm outside I hang out with my friends by the lake and stroll around through the woods.
Andy :
I study Physics of the Earth System. Other than that I move a lot, I travel with my friends from town to town, we also like going to bars, and having nice conversations. Actually I already know my next destination: a little town in Austria where I once bought my father booze for his birthday.
Amnusique :
*chuckles* You hit a nerve there Andy, now we want to taste the Austrian booze!! On a more serious note, is there a story behind the band’s name?
Lukas :
I had to focus on many things related to my education, spent hours in front of my desk and had to abstain from some things I did before like having parties or producing music. I became comfortable with this daily routine and breaking out, changing this routine or habit seemed to be the only way for me to find happiness.
Andy :
I’m lucky my grandparents and parents help me out with my finances, but right before I turned 25 it hit me that I wanted to be financially independent. So in order to give something back I had to change some of my old habits. That’s how we decided that something new might take some changed habits
Amnusique :
You met each other in February 2015 and released your first track Memory in April. How did that encounter happen? What made you think “well, I’m gonna release a track with that guy I just met”?
Lukas :
I wrote Andy to ask him if he was interested in a collaboration and within a day he replied, then he drove all the way down to the place where I live, it took him about 13 hours. When he got there we started going through the song, grabbed a bite and then we recorded the song in the living room. When we were finished I uploaded the song on his phone so he could listen to it while driving back home.
Amnusique :
“Memory” was released on the Youtube music channel “Get The Sound”. Why did you choose that channel in particular?
Andy :
we both regularly listen to the great uploads on “Get The Sound” and I had the contact information from a project with “Lette” from the past, so I thought they should be hearing my new stuff with Lukas.
Amnusique :
Is there a release date for the single, or probably an EP?
Lukas :
Due to too many requests we released the song on iTunes, Spotify and a few more other music retailers.
Amnusique :
Given the band’s name, the next question was a pretty obvious one. If you could change one habit about yourself, what would it be?
Lukas :
I’m always telling myself I don’t have time to travel. Therefore, I would like to change this habit to finally see more of the world . Traveling is, in my opinion, the best investment you can do with money. I would love to go somewhere where nobody knows me. I would leave my cellphone at home, take my camera with me and start discovering new things.
Andy :
I’d probably stop riding the bike with my best trousers. Within a few weeks they get torn apart and I have to buy new ones. Expensive behavior.
Amnusique :
*chuckles* Do you have any future plans?
Lukas :
we are working on new ideas. We will meet each other soon in Austria to record the next songs. So stay tuned. Thank you very much for your questions.
